What about this kit for 3G Upgrade?

    see:

Please give opinion. Good deal? Bad deal? Will it work for my 91 5.0?

After communications with the seller, he has my application listed and this kit, according to his info, is the correct kit for my wagon.

salvage yard is cheaper, I know, but I'd rather have a new unit, myself.

170 bucks shipped for a brand new alternator and the cables isn't too bad of a price. You may be able to piece together the stuff individually for a little less, but it probably won't be a whole bunch less. The only concern I'd raise is warranty coverage. I see no mention of a warranty in the ad. A new alternator from a local parts store should have one, and if something happens you can go someplace to have it replaced.

my bad, no sleep does that. i don't think i meant to say reman, probably meant to say used or something. i remember him saying at one point that he can get them used for fairly cheap, and since he's selling a bunch of stuff because he needs the $$ i figured i'd point him in that direction.

I wouldn't trust the guy, just because it's being sold on eBay.
Check out this guy- he also sells the kits without the alternator for $43 plus shipping. I'm getting the kit and picking up a used alternator at the junk yard for $10. This guy professionally crimps all his ends and has a fuse holder inline. It's a baller set-up... then factor in the fact he's using MONSTER cables and it's a killer deal for what you're getting.

Now that I look again, that eBay sale may be the same guy. Looks like the same fuse holder. Go measure from your alternator to the driver side fender, to the radiator support, to the passenger side fender, to the stud on your starter relay. I have a feeling it'll be more than 7.5', which is why I haven't actually ordered the kit, yet- I want to make sure I measure and it'll have enough wire, because he said he'll make the wire a bit longer for me since the Panthers are so much wider than Mustangs. If you don't measure it before I get a chance I'll post up the length and how much extra he charged for the added length.

Around here salvage yard units are $25-$35 with no guarantee it's a good one.

I decided to order the kit based on the seller's feedback and our communications. We'll see how it goes.

Now that would be a good thing to do. Perhaps put together a conversion kit with instructions as an option.

I'm gonna have to do my 83 P43 at some point so a trustworthy less expensive source would be great.

I just bought a wiring harness on ebay. You could make up your own easily enough with the remains of your existing one....you only really need to change one wire

To get just the kit without the alternator ($43) he's got a good price. Saves a lot of hassle over piecing together junk yard parts that could be corroded internally.

That's the thing. The wagon's gonna have to be super reliable and one thing I plan to run is a converter so we can hook up my mother in law's oxygen machine. She's stuck on that thing and we hope to be able to take her to the mountains before she's gone. Right now, she's limited to her portable bottles so a multi day trip is out of the question. Her machine will fit nicely in the wagon and she'll be able to make the trip and have a fresh bottle ready when she needs it.
