It *probably* won't blow up in your face. Mine hasn't yet, and that light was taped over when I got the car. Not a clue how long its been like this. Mostly the only reason I'm concerned with fixing it is the blinking light is annoying. The airbag light has been on in my truck for like 5 years now. It doesn't blink, therefore I can ignore it.

BTW, don't remove the light bulb for the airbag. It will start beeping if the bulb is out, and thats *way* more annoying.

If the airbag computer sees a fault, it won't go off on you.

I had a 90 CV with a code 9, front sensor. I found that the sensor was replaced before me because one of the bolts was broken off. The dealer told me that the entire system was faulty from production and have to be replaced at something $750.00. The system looks for 1.3 kohms at the sensor during the self test. It wasnt there, so I hooked up a resistor in parallel with the sensor and the light stayed off while the car was running.

Sounds like the sensor is defective then. No need to replace the whole thing for a bum crash sensor. Also, if that ground connection under the sensor isn't good, it won't work properly. Might be worth pulling it off, cleaning the mounting points, and replacing the broken bolt.

Also, I'd steer away from that dealer. Sounds like they're trying to rip you off.

I have a 90 CV with a 9 error code as well. Is it true that all front sensors have to be replaced or could I go to scrap yard and just get the one middle replaced only ? Were the front sensors all the same on 90-91 CV's and Grand Marquis ? Also, since the sensors are numbered do I have to use the identical part number ??
                Cheers

My car, a 90CV, also does the 6-flash thing on occassion. I may be crazy, but it seems to occur when there is a change in the barometric pressure, because the thing seems to start fashing when a significant weather pattern is coming in. After the 6th or 7th time it did this, and sure enough the weather changed fairly drastically, I figured that the clock spring or some sensor was picking up the pressure change. At least that's my theory!

I am not sure that these codes are always correct. I had an issue with my airbag light and it was flashing 8 times. The culprit ended up being the Clock Spring and not the Primary Crash Sensor. My vehicle is a Crown Victoria 2007.

Those single digit codes only apply till 91 or 92, when the system changed to a 2 digit code readout.
