    Wiring Diagram Needed

    Hi All,

Trying to install a remote start on my '88 Grand Marquis, I can't find anything online...I need the starting/ignition circuits and their color coded wires in the column ign. switch if possible. Instructions say to use the yellow wire as positive, but there are two. Also, says you need to use the white starter wire, that is part of the ignition harness....yet there isn't a white wire part of this harness...????

BTW, It's an old (2001) Code-Alarm CSM-3 Remote Start if anyone has any pointers...

    Thanks!

Is there a particular reason not to forget the diagram and energize the ignition and the starter directly? Seems that'd save both on headaches and on the extent to which your harness would get hacked up.

Yep, I have that as well. That's part of the problem...there are two yellow wires- both have constant on. Before I hack them up I wanted to make sure I had the right one.

I don't have a scematic for the mercury that I coudl use to trace which wires went where- that's kinda what I was wondering if it was out there. I'd buy the manual, but the car is tore up right now, and I can't wait a couple weeks to get a book in the mail.

I don't see why not- but that would present it's own set of challenges as well. Has anyone got any pointers for going this route?

            Update:

I found a "t" harness online that is designed to be somewhat plug and play. I'll give that a shot and hopefully not have to cut any of the original harness at all.

I will. I'll also do a write up on it in case anybody else wants to hook one up.

                  That would be very helpful.

Well, I've run into a snag. I've ran all the wires and I have the car starting up fine with the remote. The problem is, after it starts, it dies immediately. Like it's not geting spark dies. Starts and runs fine with the key. I can't seem to get the remote starter to 'program' the tach signal per the included directions, and I don't think it's getting the tach signal when it fires, so the brain shuts down the ignition. I've pretty much ruled out everything else as a cause. FWIW, the 'tach' wire from the r/s is connected to the green wire on the coil.

If anyone has any expertise with these remote starts, feel free to chime in. It's an ancient Code Alarm CSM-2 that was brand new in the box, albiet 10 years old now.

At first I wired it up according to my wire color code charts, assuming it only had 1 starting circuit, but after more research and my failed attempt to keep it running after it starts, I'm thinking the G/M has 2 starting circuits; there is another set of wires to connect to make that work. After I try this combo and try reprogramming the brain of the remote start- it should work. If not, this one is going in the shitcan and I'll be taking the car someplace to have a newer one installed. I'm getting frustrated, and so far the Marauder has been subjected to more 'winter driving' than I'd hoped.

                    But I hate admitting defeat!
