    Large Case Alt Wiring Diagram

I'm working with a '91 Vic with the large case alt. It doesn't charge anymore. i'm wondering which wire would be the charge light wire. So I can convert to a 3g. Also, what wiring can I delete? The car had the heated front windshield (de-icer) option at one time. What do I do with the wires coming off of the alternator relay (in front of the battery). Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
    ~John

I'm curious to see how this differs from the small case alt...I didn't think it would be that different but I'm probably wrong

green/red on the I terminal of the voltage regulator is the one you want.

I think he means the external regulator model. Thats the only large size alternator that came on the Vic.

You'll also want to get familiar with the tsb that covered bypassing the heated windshield option.

Got a link for that? I'd be interested in knowing the proper way to do it. I suspect its not just leaving the wires lay in the windshield tray as I've seen done before.

I will check that out tomorrow. I'll look it up and I'll post the TSB mangs. I'll get back to you guys later. Btw Thain, there is no red/green wire on the regulator or the alternator itself. I'm going to assume its somewhere in the windshield module or whatever it's called.

Its whatever goes to the I terminal. Usually its green/red but maybe it changes color somewhere from the heated windshield stuff. Theres a box for that over by the battery.

That's the alternator relay. The TSB states to locate the heated windshield control module, unplug the connector, remove wire number one, tape it up, and reconnect the connector. Then put the bat, and alt wires on the alternator relay on the alt stud on the relay. And basically, that's the proper way to disable it. Found my fuck up. And I fixed it, the alternator charges fine now.

If the heated windshield is not cracked, yes. You can also replace it with a new heated windshield for probably way more than the car is worth. 2000 or so.
