silly question, but is it possible that
A) your brake lights are staying on all the time
B) you are only testing with the brakes applied?

hazards should override the brakes, just like a turn signal overrides the brakes.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

Gotta be a ford thing then. How will somebody behind you know if you are on the brakes to slow down/stop (for cars before the HMSL came to be)--(or did they change the scheme when they went to a HMSL)? I'll have to try it out tommorow.
As for signals, whichever direction you select is isolated from the brake switch and is only acted upon by the flasher.

The hazards and turn signals override the brake lights. Hazards on both sides, turn signals on the side you turn on. Turn on the left signal, it will blink, the right light will stay on when you hit the brake. It works that way in all cars and trucks.89 CV LX 225/60 x 16 tires, CC819 rear springs, Front & rear sway bar, trans & PS cooler from 90 cop car. KYB shocks, F-150 on rear. Dual Exhaust w/ H pipe. might have been a mid-decade change with the 3rd brake light - the brakes stop the hazards from flashing in my 85.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

Crazy....I apologize for being so sure that what was true on my car applied to all cars. That's fucked up.Originally posted by gadget73There is nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

No worries, I had the same feelings with my point. Tried it out last night. Wadda ya know.
Considering the GM is the only thing I own that has a HMSL, everything else is the typical combined stop/turn pair of lights, where brakes do override hazzards (brake feed bypasses the hazzard portion of the turn signal/hazzard switch). Otherwise, its a major safety oversight if people behind you don't know if you are hitting the brakes (driving with the hazzards on, wether accidently or for a reason).
Alex.
