will the headlights from the partsmobile work?

Driver side low beam died on me today..it's actually kind of scary how poorly I can see with just the passenger side working. Needed to turn my brights on whenever I could...anyway, I know the lights work in the parts car (88 GM), are they the same as the lights in my 1990 CV? Since it died at night I can't really see to take anything apart to check..

ah, okay. thanks! I will be able to find out for sure tomorrow when I can take shit apart. I've never done this before...anything crazy I have to be aware of before I start?

not really, its just a few screws that hold the light bezel in. the light isnt held in by much. it should just unhook from the connector and then remove the bezel and swap out the lights. the low and high beams are different. i cant remember which has wich, but one has 2 prongs and one has 3.

low beam has three.

Low beam is 4656, high is 4651. There are letters in front and following these numbers, they tell you what kind of light it is.
Low beam should be on the outside, high on the inside.

It seems like the lights are off when the regular low beams are on. Barely adequate to see at night..seems like way less than half of what it used to be, but I might just be crazy.

I've heard things about headlights exploding from the oils on your finger - I am presuming that this is from moisture and that this is only the bulb itself, is that correct? I am also assuming that I am changing the headlight and not just the bulb....anyway, feel free to tell me what I've got wrong.

yeah you are not touching the bulb. Sealed beam headlamps.

any recommendations for replacements when I do get something new? I don't want those fruity bright blue things that anger me greatly at night I don't even know what they are, assuming LEDs of some variety..

I dont really prefer any brand over another. Even though i did in fact purchase a set of Silverstars for $80 a year or two ago...it was a complete set, so 20 a piece.

low beam has three.

quit being cheap. buy a pair of low beams. If one burned out, the other isn't far behind and they do degrade from age so used ones aren't the best solution either. I've had decent luck from Sylvania Xtravision lights. They're bright, seem to last OK, and aren't stupidly expensive. I have Silverstars in my truck, and they work well but they are kind of pricey. I got them on some special so they were actually reasonably priced, and that is honestly the only reason I've got them. Neither of those are the silly blue lights either, just regular old white lamps.

it's not a case of being cheap, it's a case of not having any fucking money.

at the very least grab both of the low beams from the parts car. That way they will both work together and have the same equal beam pattern. also running a relay harness will help as well so you will save the headlight switch. I'm running sylvania's cool blues on both low's and high's they have good light output. I had silverstars but they did not last that long lol.
