Gas Gauge Reads half when tank is full

Hi guys, me again, with another problem. It seems Vicky has developed another problem with her. I filled her tank today, and the damn gauge only went up to half a tank. So the only thing I can think of is the sending unit in the tank has crapped the bed. Do I have to drop the tank to service the sending unit? And where would be the best place to get one?

I got my sending unit from teamfordparts.com and to install it you do NOT need to drop the tank, matter of fact, it only takes like 15 minutes.

Ok cool, but it's safe to assume that it can't be worked on with the tank full. What's a good point that I can work on it without taking a bath?

You want the tank less than 1/2 full, the emptier the better. The access plate is on the front of the tank, just above the rear. Have a look in there and you'll get a better idea of how far down the fuel level needs to be.

Could also be a bad float.

Should become obvious once you have it out of the car. Probably a clip, but I don't remember.
