    AUTOMATIC CLIMATE CONTROL?????????

FIRST; 89 GRAND MARQUIS, A/C BLOW NICE & COLD WHEN IT WORKS.ABOUT 80% OF THE TIME IT CYCLES ON & OFF LIKE IT IS SUPPOSE TO & KEEPS US COLD. SOMETIMES IT WONT COME BACK ON & JUST HOT AIR BLOWS OUT.THEN AFTER ABOUT FIVE MINUTES IT WILL COME ON.WORKS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME . IT STARTED ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, MAYBE 200 MILES TOTAL. I WAS TOLD TO CHECK THE DISTANCE ON THE CLUTCH. I WAS ABLE TO GET A .019 FEELER IN WITH FRICTION. TODAY I TURNED THE KEY TO THE RUN POSIT. & CLUTCH DIDNT ENGAGE. JUT FOR KICKS I PUT A JUMPER WIRE ON THE PRESSURE SWITCH & STILL NO CLUTCH ENGAGE. HELP. THANKS GARY

Hi Gary, and welcome to GMN. I think you may find some answers in this thread.

    Good luck.

Oh, by the way, if you wouldn't mind shutting off your Caps Lock, the rest of us would appreciate not being yelled at.

Well, the clutch won't engage without the engine running. There is an ECM operated relay that kills power to the AC to allow for easier cranking. Does the clutch engage with the engine running?

It sounds like a possible bad connection at the pressure switch or maybe a failing WOT relay. Its one of the three up front behind the washer bottle. Green, brown, black are the three, but honestly I forget which is the WOT relay. I think its the black one, but don't hold me to that. If you unplug it, the AC stops. If the engine stops, thats not the right one

a little up date; i found out the clutch only engages when the engine runs. today i have it in the garage with the 3 doors open so i am in the shade. i started it, had it running for 25 minutes in nutral & at about 1700 rpms. the clutch stayed engaged the whole time & the air comming out of the ducts was a constant 40 degrees. had a thermo. in duct. twice the low pressure line & dryer frosted up, then thawed.the ( big line comming out of heater box. ) so today the clutch never cycled on/off and never got hot air comming out like yesterday driving down the road. thanks for the quick reply
