    A/C Repair Question

With It being so God-Awfully Hot this summer, it has been constantly reminding me of the importance of having A/C in a Daily Driven Car. So I'm gonna get the Merc's A/C going before next Spring/Summer. I have all of the parts on hand right now, except for the R-134a hoses, which I will be buying shortly.

However, I have one obstacle in my path. (see pic)

Someone in the past Hacked off the metal line that is going into the A/C Box.

Is this something that is easily repairable, or am I stuck trying to Weld a new end piece onto the hacked one?

If it is in fact repairable, what exactly is involved?

Well, I got off work early today, and after reading you guys posts I decided to go out in my back 40, brave the massive hoard of mosquitoes, and pay my parts car a lil visit. To see just how tough of a job this is really gonna be, and to possibly harvest any good parts, since the parts car had a flawless R-12 system before I parted the car out.

Was pretty easy on the parts car, as it doesn't have a Front Clip on it at all. Turned out to be 5 Bolts/Nuts inside the engine bay, and one hidden Bolt under the dash to remove the Plenum from the Firewall. Here are the parts I ended up harvesting.

The Evap had to have been replaced at least 10yrs after the car was built because it has a manufacturing date of 3-13-96 stamped on it. So this one should still be good enough for me to re-use in the Merc. I will be cleaning it out with solvent before installing it.

Thanks Guys, any other helpful comments that you may have about tackling this job in a fully assembled car, or about the usability of the parts I harvested, please let me know. Looks like I'm just gonna have to remove the inner fender liner on the Merc to be able to remove the plenum, and replace the evap.

        -Brandon
