    Vicky: The Computer Eater

Well Vicky killed another computer. This is the 4th one she's went through since I've had her. She has had computer issues in the past but I guess the rebuilt one lasted as long as it could. That was the first computer she ate when I had her. She then went through one from the junkyard. Then I got another one from the junkyard and it lasted quite a while. And she killed this one last Thursday. On Friday, I installed the last computer I had, and it worked for the day. On Saturday that computer met it's fate. All the computers do the same bullshit. Runs rough, smoke out of the tailpipe, no output from the computers though. But with any of the computers, I could get them to work again by starting the car, then when it's running, switch the ignition to off, and then on again before the engine completely stops. Then the car runs like normal. Also, one time I had noticed that when I drove the car in this state, with the tripminder on, I was getting like 68mpg, so I'm assuming the engine is running lean. Anyone have any ideas why Vicky keeps eating the computers? All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Tripminder was probably bugging out because the fuel flow output from the computer was off.

Do they fry or just quit working? What kind of wiring changes have you done?

They fry. They still work, but like I said I have to start the car, then when it's running, turn the key to off then back on before the engine stops moving, and it works fine. I haven't changed any of the wiring for the computer. The only wiring changes I've done was with the headlights. And I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the computers' failure.

You should check the voltage to the wire powering the ECM.

id print out a wire diagram for you car, see where the computer has any incomming power sources and trace them back for anything that might mean the computer is getting too much voltage, a burnt out resistor or something.

I only see one wire that is power for the computer, which is a gray wire with a yellow stripe coming from the ignition switch.
