    Winsheild washer questions

Does anyone know how the washer circuit works on these cars?

I'm having a problem with it. I replaced the pump but only works half the time. I think It has something to do with the wiper switch.
could it be the contacts are dirty? are they common to fail? I'm anal about having a good clean windsheild lol

what year is your car, i know that the 90-91 boxes had a common problem with the signal/wiper stalk switch wearing out and/or breaking.

Not much to the circuit. There is a switch built into the wiper switch that powers the pump. If the pump is good, check the electrical connections and the ground. If that doesn't do it, probably the switch is wearing/worn out. Ground connection should be on the fender near the washer bottle.

When the pump doesn't come on, do the wipers still move?
Also, just another idea, you're not using water as a replacement for washer fluid are you? It can freeze in the tank and the pump won't work until the car has warmed up, causing the ice to melt.

i also forgot to ask...do you hear a weird electrical sound when you use the wiper switch?

yeah most likley it's the switch I was confused if the washer switch was separate from the wiper switch I guess it's all one switch. yeah the pump is brandy new most likley the washer switch inside the wiper swich is getting worn out because the washer pump only turns on half the time. thanks guys
I'm one on those anal people who has to have a good working washer system and perfect cleaning wipers lol. I replace them every 6 months.

make sure the plug on the pump is clean and check the ground before you replace the switch.

That, and make sure that your wires ain't rubbing on nothing - I had a few moments last week where when I push the button for the pump my backup lights would come on (bet the guy behind me hated them floods!), turns out the wire rubbed through the insulation and was contacting the plate where I got my relays grounded to...

My car does that too and it's the original. To the back of the car and to the side of the car. I remember when I gave the car next to me a bath good thing his window wasn't open. The aero's one shoot pretty well too.

Can I jack the thread for just a minute? What all years and models were available with the nifty arrangement with the sprayers mounted on the wiper arms?

My '79 definitely had 'em. Suppose it's possible they were aftermarket, though I don't recall seeing evidence of a central sprayer ever having been mounted. I still have the arms here somewhere.
