    Air/Heating controls BROKEN

Hey, Well the heating/air controls in Brown Muscle died yesterday...Luckily it was quiet mild. So before I go ripping the dash and controls apart I was wondering if anyone could offer any suggestions as to what it may be? previously only the vents worked (no defrost or floor) and the controls have gotten sloppier and sloppier to get it to blow air until yesterday...nothing. Heres a pic of the exact control..I hear it is unusual..like the car haha.

    Thanks guys

Sounds like the electrical switch for the selector. Either that or the resistor for the blower motor is shot. Or the blower motor just up and died.

Quite possible the peg on the back of the slider broke, or the actual vacuum selector bit. The control itself is odd because it has no defrost switch, but lucky for you, its internally the same. If its the vacuum doodad inside that broke, you can swap it off another one with defrost switches. In any case the problem is most likely going to be in that selector unit. It all unplugs fairly easily so you can pull it out of the dash and check it out. I actually may have parts here to fix it, but they're on an ATC head unit, not totally sure if the vacuum part inside is te same.

Would he be able to reuse his old faceplate since it doesn't have the rear defrosters?

yes, just swap the vacuum dealie inside, its held on with 2 screws or something. Chances of finding an early model non-defrost panel are slim, but finding good parts on any other random panel are decent. I know the location of a later model panel without defrost, but its got different markings.

yea but its got the different temperature markings, like 85 or 86+. Prob direct swap tho as long as he's not too picky about the panel not being as shiny. Last I knew it was in the box that had the random Bronco parts in it from Natehawk's 351 install, but I couldn't tell you where it got to from that point. Last i clearly remember it was probably more than a year ago. It might have gotten mixed into that box of misc stuff that came in the trunk of your Vic.

ok guys thanks, Ill try to pull it out and see what your talking about when i get home from vacation, I definitely want to keep my original faceplate. Sounds like I'll have to take a junkyard run. It got hard to move the bottom control piece and then i pushed it a little bit harder and I guess that finished it off. I'll keep you updated.

ok well I figured I'd finally post what happened. The white part with all the vacuum hoses going into it wasn't secured against the main unit. I'm not sure how it was originally secured but my solution was some superglue and a ziptie, controls work great now :hacksaw:

It was tightened onto the plastic with two nuts. Or at least, that's what held mine in place. And if those things are broken or missing, then someone's had this thing apart before.
