car wont idle?

Hey I have an 85 crown vic with the 5.0 and recently it hasn't been idling very well, it would idle very low, just enough to keep from stalling and today I go out and start it and it wont idle at all, but if I give it gas it will run but as soon as i stop it stalls. What could be causing this?

Ok it doesnt do this all the time, I just tried it again and it ran fine, Im not really sure why its doing this.

you have a vacuum operated throttle stepper on your car that is activated electronicly.
Mine would do the same thing, idle very low sometimes, sometimes not. I replace both the stepper and the solenoid many times, to no avail. FInally I hooked up the solenoid to a switch, and flipped on the idle stepper manually whenever it wanted to idle low.
I finally fixed it recently by converting to SEFI

just had this issue... car would start but not stay running... car ran fine previous day and went to start and would only start but not stay running. changed fuel filter and no more issues...
