    electric temp gauge

i installed an autometer electrical temp gauge today... my temp seems very low esp considering how hot it is around here.. it stays between 165-170 after 20 minutes of city driving... is this low? should i be concerned?

Do you have a thermostat in the cooling system? They take a long time to get up to operating temperature without a T-stat.

I consider that a good thing. My old 84 stayed around 190, but it never got over 195. Do you still have good heat when you turn the heat on? If not you may need a higher thermastat, if you want to stay warm during the winter.

Have you ever changed the thermostat in this car?

stock thermostat is 195. I've found that my car behaves much better (better power, mileage, etc) when it's right up there at 195 or so. Before you go fucking around with the thermostat, make sure that the gauge you bought is accurate by using some hot water and a kitchen thermometer. Water gauges have been known to be inaccurate.

I like the manual ones, sure they limit where you can place them, but hell, they're dead on. I run at about 195* at idle, with the AC about 200.

215 with the AC on? I would lower the t stat in it. 215 sounds kinda high for a 5.0. Just my opinion

my sunpro mechanical temp gauge usually always matches whatever temp T-stat is in at the time.

I have a 195. It runs at 195-200, with the AC. The fans come on at 200-205 and off at 195. When I first start it in the early AM it will go to 205-210 and the stat will open and drop to 190 and settle in at 195. These cars will run better at 195, if it is too cold it will dump more fuel to warm it up.
