For some reason on my friends 1981 Bronco, which I'm assuming has similar electrical systems to our cars, has a taillight condition where the brake lamps come on full, but there is no low bright brake lamps at all while the headlights are on. Is this a fuse problem or a switch? The light switch is pretty funky and flickers when you adjust the knob left to right.

Common problem with all Fords. One of the wires is burnt at the headlight switch. Sometimes it melts the plug onto the switch and is a bitch to remove. Pete89 Colony Park

Hey, I just got done checking all the fuses and replacing the headlight switch and they still don't light. The bulbs are 1157's and look new. the running light circuit is indepenant of the brake light circuit. you can have one without the other. I don't have a Towncar evtm to consult with but there is probably some connection between the brake lights and the headlamp switch, maybe down in the driver's side kick panel or something. You said they flicker when you pull the headlight knob left to right - the rear markers do?? Did you have a good look at the headlight switch connector? Sometimes when they burn they mess up the connectors too... I think you can buy replacements.
Also, did you check the ground for the rear lights?? the brake/turn signal circuits could be finding grounds the marker lights can't use.Pete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements

check your grounds, probably the reverse and tails use the same ground point. 86EVTM shows all that, the fuel sender ground, and the license lamps sharing ground G301, which is "in trunk on LH wheel well". Its behind the carpet on the driver's side if the wiring hasn't changed much since 86. The tails and reverse lights also share C301, which is a connector in the LH wheel well, so check that while you're in there looking at the grounds.Last edited by gadget73; 09-14-2008, 11:23 PM.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
