if the fluid had any hint of red, the trans wasnt already acting funny, and it was only a light darkness in the pan, you should be fine.

The transmission shifts very smoothly, driving this car is like riding around in a sofa.
Sometimes, when reaccelerating, the backshift from fourth to third is a bit rough, but I guess nothing can be done for that (maybe check the TV cable?).Comment

'89 has that TV bushing too doesn't it? Not that I'm saying that that is causing you problems, but if it's that stock bushing, I would replace it immediately!Comment

I drove around like that a couple of thousands of miles. The AOD shifted a little late and I had no kickdown. A few weeks ago, I got me a new bushing: since then, the shifting has radically changed, kickdown is back. The only thing is the back shift from 4 fourth to third : either late, either a little harsh.
Luckily I didn't destroy my transmission driving around without bushing.Comment

Well, it could be the transmission, the AODs buzz sometimes. Mine used to buzz in park. Before the rebuild. But I've been told rebuilt ones can buzz too.Comment

if it is coming from dash the part is called parking brake release vacuum switch you have to order it from ford it is very common in the older crown vics and marquis

Buzzing not hissing. And yes it is a very common problem, one that I am too cheap to fix, so now my parking brake only disengages with the handle.

Could easily be the fuel pump, as most fuel pumps tend to buzz.Comment

Some louder than others :lol: Mine's more of a whir. Not a buzz. The only buzz I know of is the transmission. Mine only did it in park, before the rebuild. Now I don't hear any buzzing.Comment
