hhmm... I just looked at your TV pics - looks like mine is on backwards!!
I swear the one on the 91 is the way I have mine now... I'll be double checking, but i had them side by side when I did it. Wont that be an easy fix Lucky me, becuase the cars at this junkyard are slam on the ground, and I wasnt looking forward to pulling anything off the transmission...

but more importantly... why is my new cruise control driving my car like a moron??? (no offense to the morons...) it wont keep a steady speed... its constantly on-and-off the gas, hovering head-jerkingly just around the set speed.
Could the 85's cruise brain not be set to work right with the crisper throttle response of the SEFI??? I hope not, becuase the cruise for the 91 is part of the ECM wiring, and wiring the 85's controls into it could be tricky - if even possible.
It may just need adjustment Im hoping, or maybe I can find a newer style dealer-installed cruise brain...

I used the cfi cruise brain with no problem. Did you swap the entire cruise servo/cable from a sefi car, or just the cable?

Maybe your speed sensor is funky. On my '82 (with the speed sensor behind the speedo), teh cruise acted like yours until I lubed the speedo cable and got the needle to settle down. I think your speed sensor is down on the tranny, though.

I need the 7" bolt for use with the spacer, thats what all the nuts stacked on the long bolts are all about... lol. I could cut those bolts short, but I'd have to cut more threads on it becuase there's only about an inch of thread to begin with.

I nabbed the whole cruise ball/cable assembly from a 88/89 vic - my speed sensor is on the trans as far as I know, some wires plug in just above the speedo cable with one green/white wire so Im guessing thats it.
The cruise worked fine before!!! Maybe I will swap the new cable onto the 85's ball (if I can), after I double check my connections...
Ive tried a broad range of settings on the throttle lever hookup, from all the way loose to just tight enough to raise the idle, and most spots in between.

I want my cruise!!! Especially since its much easier to "accidenty" speed on the highway!!!!!!

I got more buttoning up done over the weekend... still need to figure out how to hook up the A/F gauge to the 3 wire o2 sensor, and figure out the differences in EGR wiring, becuase I need to wire in a new pigtail and the EGR wire colors for the 91 are different than both the CFI and 88 harnesses I have...

you can swap out cables on the cruise servo, i had just used the 84 servo with an 87 cable. its easy to switch the cable.

I know the bolts that hold the throttle body elbow on an explorer 5.0 is the exact length needed for an intake bolt with a spacer. i'm guessing that would still be hard to find, so as far as i know try lots of hardware stores.

wiring that integrated cruise would be annoying. The buttons would have to be wired into the ecm, as well as the speed sensor and cruise servo. Half the pins are there but parts of the harnesses are not. The stand-alone should work just fine. I'm using an 88 integrated cruise ECM on my 86 with it's original stand-alone bran, servo, etc.

Vacuum leaks will make for unstable cruise. If that servo you're using is leaky, if the vacuum dump valve on your brake pedal is bad, or if the hoses between the two halves of the servo aren't sealed right it'll go all retarded. I doubt its an electrical problem unless you've messed with the VSS wiring somehow. If it worked before, it should continue to work even with the SEFI. Only thing that might be a possible is if the new ECM wiring tied into the old VSS, and now you have no VSS input to the cruise brain. I don't think you'd have any cruise at all if that was the case tho.

More buttoning up today - I wired in the EGR position sensor, hooked up the A/F gauge (seems to be working right)
I checked the cruise ball for leakage, it holds vacuum well enough. Everythings hooked up right for the cruise as far as I can tell, I'll try swapping the cables later, I didnt feel like sweating anymore today.

I swapped the IAC too, still revs to 2K sometimes when I start it up... the nifty "fun size" IAC with the 90 degree plug didnt work, the plug touched the wiper motor. If the newer style boxes got smaller wiper motors, it might work on them.
I found a suprize when I took off the IAC... the 11mm head on the "bolt" holding the bottom half on turned out to be a coarse thread self-tapping SCREW luckily I was able to clean up what was left of the threads and use a longer bolt to put it back on... so far so good.

Every now and then when I'm backing up and making a tight turn out of a drive or something it will stall... it did that before... more embarrasing than anthing... could the PS pump be getting tired, putting extra strain on it during a tight turn??

She gets funner and funner to drive every time, its awesome having a box that moves like a smaller car... cait wait untill I can make it fast :evil:

she didnt do burnouts at all before, unless it was wet...

oh yeah Gabe the pump is original as far as I know... and yup the new 29 around here is 65mph... great to test drive at intersate speeds!

Im going to throw that damned chrome T-stat housing in the trash... my original is fairly pitted on the neck, so I was gonna try to aquire another in better shape, but its rather annoying to dribble coolant everywhere I go...

I also saw that 90-91 indeed have a uniqe TV lever, as indicated by the F0 part number. I gotta get a 87-89 lever too so I can get that installed right...

Also... Ive recently discovered she does not like to shift at WOT/high rpm... TV pressure is set slightly high right now...
Of course it may have always been like this. I seem to remember it behaving the same the few times it ever got wound higher than 3500 - 4000 rpm, and now the motor actually acts like it wants to rev that high before it would scream for mercy...
What would be the logical next step? Invest in a shift kit to make the shifts less abusive to the transmission since Im going to be beating on it now...? Or a mustang shift govenor so it will want to shift at high rpm??
Of course before any of this, and any continued high rev shifting I'll be checking the TV pressure... still trying to find the chock tool so I can adjust it "properly"...

Probably don't need more than a stock governer on a stock lopo motor. I'd go with a shift kit so it doesn't mush around so much.
