What sort of car are you putting this on? If its a Vic, then there are stock 3g small case alternators that drop right into the stock brackets with no mods. If its not a Vic, then there still may be stock alternators that drop right in without having to modify anything.

      Correction 3G mounting

Sorry I forgot to add that I have a 1990 Grand Marquis. The alternator is a 130 amp out of a1995 E-350 ( meaning that it is a large case approx 8+" center to center, small case drop in are approx 90 amps 7" center to center mount). I have 2 pictures of the large case from the junkyard and the small case that was misrepresented as a powermaster

          4000 x 3000 attachments? Really?

But yeah, that'll work good if you obtain a large-case style alternator bracket.

FWIW, I did notice with the small-case I'm using at present that it interferes slightly with the p/s bracket. Not a problem in operation, but it makes it hard to get the belt on, and when I dug out a half-inch larger belt it was too big. Some judicious grinding should help, but I haven't yet bothered.

My question is can I notch the water pump mounting hole and use the same bracket that the small 2G used on the car? SinceI have been unable to find the bracket.

If I were you, I'd get rid of the large case alt and get a small case alt from a 3.0 taurus or a 95-ish mustang. Those will bolt right up without the use of a bracket.

No. Get a small case. or find the large case bracket. Vics with heated windshields/ police models have the large case bracket.
Smaller ones are easier to come by and can be found in 3.0 taurus and 5.0 mustangs... and I'm sure there are others as well.

Can someone explain what the alternators after the 3g are? Like what is different as compared to the 3gs? Is it cause they are computer controlled?

The 4g is basically like the 3g, but with no external stator wire to hop from the regulator to a terminal on the case. We installed one on a car once, and it basically just plugged in to the stock 2g wiring. That was the Explorer accessory swap project. I think it was a 200 amp alternator. No clue what application may exist with that style alternator with a case thats useful for us tho. No clue about newer types.

Anyway, there are 90 and 130 amp small case alternators. You can tell by the number of holes in the front of the case between the "ribs" on the front plate, though I forget which is which. I think the one with 3 holes is the 130 and 2 holes is the 90.

if you look at the front of the case, there are some raised casting marks there. In between those, there are holes. I forget what it is, 2 rows or 3 rows, or maybe its 2 holes vs 3 holes, but its some difference in the number of holes between those casting marks that tells you if its a 130 or a 90. Ivan knows what it is, and he told me once but I forgot.

                                Cabling for 3G upgrade

I have gathered cables for the 3G upgrade from AutoZone.com. They are not the closest auto parts store by any means, but they had 2 gauge cable. I wish my NAPA store carried them. I had them shipped. They are from the battery to the solenoid (GT212B) and the battery to the block and core support (GT238B). I got the 42" cable (Alternator Charge Cable) from the alternator to the solenoid from Ford Fuel Injection. I am attaching photos.
