Fuel Gauge Fuse?

A friend of mine had a CV, mid 80's model and his fuel gauge quit workingalso, he said there was a fuse in the fuse block for the hand, if this info IS true is anyone the wiser to its whereabouts? If so I have posted a pic of my fuseblock in my RR page thanks all

have you checked the fuses to see if any are blown, or checked your owners manual for the existance of a fuel gauge fuse??

Owners' Manual?.....pssshh.....Never got one, barely got the keys....Umm, any ideas where I might find a diagram/schematic of the fuseblock?

As for the blown fuses, no KNOWN blown fuses (colored ones), as for thegray ones, idk....they're solid.....Any idea how to check them?

5 bucks at harbor freight will buy one. Its not a great meter, but it will do basic resistance and voltage checks. a test light works fine for this too, just touch the small metal bit exposed at the top of the fuse on both sides. if both sides light, fuse is fine. if one side is dark, fuse is dead.

I got a fantastic one that I love that does everything and is auto-ranging for $19 or so at Wal-Mart. It works perfectly. Test light like gadget says is much cheaper though. Only $5 or so at Wal-Mart.

Umm, a visual on the colored fuses turned up no blown ones, don't know about the big gray ones.....Those are the ones in question really...any ideas on how they tick/can be checked?

well crap... looks like I dont have a manual for my 91 either... I thought I did.
Is the cover for the fuse box around? If thats still with the car it should tell you whats what. Those are 2 things i keep forgetting at the junkyard...

You could even make your own test light with a 194 socket, some extra wire and an aligator clip. Just probe each side of the fuse on the exposed end (with the key on)

ARe ye talkin about the silver/metal ones, or the colored fuses.

nah the bigger silver things are circuit breakers, not fuses. They definitly arent the problem... Id guess either the gauge itself is bad or the fuel guage motherboard thingie is bad. I cant picture how a faulty sender would make it rise to a 1/4 tank then drop, but Im no expert.

Regardless tho it would be nice to know a tidbit on checking them just for future use.....

I dont even know if that thing's testable.. never even messed with one myself... Id just swap in a harvested used one.

Well, I don't think there are fuses for gauges. But it could be the float on your sending unit. If that's the case you'll need to put up a new sending unit. Me and my friend just fixed his on his 95 Dakota, his guage wasn't working but it turns out whoever replaced the pump in the first place, didn't have the float on right.

Drop your gastank and pull out your sending unit and check it
