Checked the plug that goes into the tank for the gauge with a test light and it showed I have electricity there, so maybe its just the float gone bad....Any ideas where I may purchase one, or what I can get one from that is the same setup.

Check the local junkyards. Or if you want to get a new one go to autozone or a parts store. They are easy to change. Just a pain in the ass to drop the tank and lift it back up.

Thats a no-go TFL, they only sell the TANKS ($185), but the geniuses do not sell the inner parts (Float, etc)

Yes pete it could be that, it lays between the gauge
          or the float.

Jump the wires together at the float. If the gauge pegs to F, its good. If it doesn't move, its bad. At this point you've got a 50/50 shot of it being the gauge or the sender in the tank.

Oh, btw, a brand new tank is less than $185, do not buy a tank from the junkyard. Sender new is probably under 100 bucks. It could also be just the float has sunk, and those are even cheaper than the whole sender assembly.

They won't sell the float alone, I know that I was talking about the whole sending unit. Not exactly cheap

Really? I had to get the whole sending unit for my dad's 88 Vic. Might just be my area then. I've changed the pump in a 92 Grand Prix, Sending unit in a 95 Dakota, and sending unit in a 88 Vic

If you buy a new tank from Autozone, its just a tank. No float, sender, or anything else. You'd need to use your existing parts. And they actually told you that they couldn't get you a fuel sender? Wow. If you need just a float, probably you'd have to get it from Ford but maybe Napa can get it. Sender should be available aftermarket but if a non-braindead store (try napa maybe?) can't get it, probably also a Ford item.

If it goes to F, either the resistance wire on the sender is bad, or the float has sunk. Either way, you'll need to remove the whole sending unit from the tank and check it. If you shake the float and its full of gas the problem is pretty obvious but if that appears good, you'd need to plug in the sender and have someone watch the gas gauge while you move the arm up and down. The gauge should react with arm movement. If it doesn't, the whole sender must be replaced.

last time i got a float from stealership it was $6.66 if i remember right. you will need the "O" ring gasket too... dont worry about pulling the tank since you can access the sending unit without dropping the tank

most places claim the fuel pump and sending unit is a one piece deal. advance auto parts told me this when i said i needed a sending unit "O" ring. went to the parts counter at the Ford dealer and ended up getting the "O" ring and float since i was replacing the "O" ring gasket. they tell you they dont sell since theye have to oreder te floats in pkgs of 2 and have to open the double pack to sell you one.

he's got a carb car, those don't have an in-tank pump. Should just be a tube with a sock on the end if I'm not mistaken.

Carbureted Panthers have a mechanical fuel pump mounted on the driver's side of the engine. In-tank pumps were only used on fuel injected cars.
