I was looking at the wires from the car I pulled at the yard. the red/yellow wire plugs into the switch too.
I'm a little confused, am I using the Automatic Headlight Switch or my regular one?

      Hi 86VickyLX

You are using all the stuff that is originally fitted to your car, the Red/Yellow wire is the headlight live feed from the main light switch to the multi-function switch on the steering column.

Ok so I don't need the auto headlight switch, cool.
As for the Red/Yellow I just tap that into the wire on the multifunction switch?

Also, the colors that you didn't list at the bottom left are those colors in the car?

          Hi 86VickyLX

I would tap into the Red/Yellow wire on the back of the main light switch as you need three other wires from the back of the main light switch.

The wire colors in the lower left corner are the colors on the autolamp sensor to the colors in my diagram.

Dude you sure you can handle this project or you want to pay me to fly over and do it for you

I can handle it I just want to double check everything, so I don't mess up.

              Hi 86VickLX

One point I should make is that you are powering the headlights, so the headlight power feed to the relay (red in my drawing) and the feed from the relay to the headlights (black 27amp wire) use a suitable gauged wire capable of carrying 25amps or more, all the other wires can be rated for 8 or 10 amps.

I have 16 gauge wire. Will that work?

                  Hi 86VickyLX

16 guage isn't really quite man enough for headlights it is rated for 22amps and only just meets the bare minimum, you really need 15 or 14 guage but only for the two wires I mentioned.

For ease of wiring all the other wires you only need some 21 or 22 guage.

                  Regards

Ok cool. Hopefully the parts store will be open tomorrow.

I forgot to ask, where can I get the resistor?

Well I went to the local parts place for the relay and resistor. No luck. They didn't carry anything that wasn't used for something already. Though they did have I guess you would call it a one pole relay since it only had one set of switch contacts. The next stop I will try is the Radio place near me.

Also I need the specs for the resistor. The site is asking me for resistance and tolerance and a bunch of other things.

                              It wasn't on top.

                                Hi 86VickyLX

                                Try This Resistor.

They are only little fellas, I soldered wires onto each end, then encased it in heat shrink folded the wires over and put another layer of heatshrink over it to git it some protection.

The value of the resistor is what gives you the delayed exit time, the higher the resistance the longer the delayed exit lights on time, I found 60Kohms gave about 30 seconds of delayed exit, if you want longer up the resistance.

                                Regards
