    Lazy brake lights

    Hi everyone,

It's me again! (Ford LTD Crown Vic Lx 5.0 CID).
I'm having a little trouble with my brake lights. In fact, they operate inconstantly, depending on the pressure applied to the brake pedal. Today they barely worked at all, lighting only with maximum pressure on the brake. On other days, they work as soon as I touch the pedal.
Any idea where that can come from? It is the master cylinder, or maybe just the cold weather ? What does make those lights work?
    Thanks for Your help!

There's a switch up at the top of the brake pedal lever... the exact name for it escapes me at the moment, but brake light switch sounds pretty good. If you lay down underneath the pedals and look up under the dash I bet you'll see it. That's bound to be your problem. Never changed one so I don't know how much of a pain in the ass it is, but I don't remember it looking like a lot of fun in my Townie. I may be exaggerating though because I haven't been underneath my dash in a few months now.

      brake on/off switch, or BOO.

Not that bad to change, if memory serves there is a pin holding one end of it to the brake pedal, and the other end clips in somehow. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out once you get positioned to see the thing.

I had a helluva time just pulling the connector off mine to tap the wire for the 3rd brake light in the 85. I remember at that time not looking forward to ever haveing to replace the switch.

I hated replacing that brake light switch pain in the ass. the hardest thing was getting the connector off. My neck hurt for a while lol. I got mine at the ford dealer 47 new If I remember. reason I wanted the ford switch was because I didn't want the cheaper one to fail than I would have to go through that all again lol.
