    Keypad? On the car?

If it's for your computer, try a new keyboard, and keep in mind that we have a separate subforum for computer questions.

could be the actual rubber things that push on the chip to indicate each number may have worn out.

usually those pads wear out. they get moisture in them over the years and fail. might have a bit of a hard time finding a new one, and it probably won't be cheap.

A key is always nice :p But seriously, a friend of mine had an aero towncar, I dont remember what year it was. Anyway, it had the key pad and one day it just quit. She went to see how much it would be to replace it but it was pricey. The dealer wanted 200 dollars or something like that. She decided to just use the key to get in the car. She kept the bad pad in because otherwise she had a hole in the door.

They were discontinued long ago. I had my dealership (yeah the same ones with the TV bushing issue) do a nationwide search for any dealers that still had them in stock and they came up with only one remaining NIB keypad, and IIRC it was in Oklahoma.

yeah, can't say I'm surprised. Its more than 10 years old, must be obsolete. Thats one thing I really hate about Ford, how quickly they obsolete parts. I understand the financial reasons but I still find it annoying.

Ford declares a part 'obsolete' after eight years unless it's a fast mover. Lately I find that nearly every single part I need for my car is discontinued. I can't even get a new tensioner for it... they were discontinued in the late 90's. I'm waiting for the time I go in and ask for an oil filter and get told they've been discontinued.

Strangely enough though, I inquired about a fuel gauge sender at the dealer and it was the only part I've asked about that actually was still in production, for whatever reason...

Seems like a nice enough feature. Did Ford happen to used the same keypad on different cars, I know Mark VII's had keyless entry. Sometimes the other applications keep the part in enough demand to stay around for awhile.
