usually those pads wear out. they get moisture in them over the years and fail. might have a bit of a hard time finding a new one, and it probably won't be cheap.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

A key is always nice :p But seriously, a friend of mine had an aero towncar, I dont remember what year it was. Anyway, it had the key pad and one day it just quit. She went to see how much it would be to replace it but it was pricey. The dealer wanted 200 dollars or something like that. She decided to just use the key to get in the car. She kept the bad pad in because otherwise she had a hole in the door.

yeah, can't say I'm surprised. Its more than 10 years old, must be obsolete. Thats one thing I really hate about Ford, how quickly they obsolete parts. I understand the financial reasons but I still find it annoying.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Strangely enough though, I inquired about a fuel gauge sender at the dealer and it was the only part I've asked about that actually was still in production, for whatever reason...

Seems like a nice enough feature. Did Ford happen to used the same keypad on different cars, I know Mark VII's had keyless entry. Sometimes the other applications keep the part in enough demand to stay around for awhile.sigpic
