The Cold/Hot lever on my 90 Grand Marquis just flops back and forth, like the little hinge part of it is broke. It still moves the blend door back and forth, but has a lot of play in it. Is there a way to fix this?
It is not a hinge, it is more of a pivot. The little pin breaks and the slide just flops around. I don't know if it can be fixed or not. I guess if you can get it apart you could replace the pin.

Ive tried, to no luck. I just replaced the floppy one with a good one from the junkyard... I have one for an ATC car but since you said "hot/cold" Im guessing your is standard, and this one wont work. Do you know if it is?
Mine is the manual one. Just the Hot Cold lever is doing it. The Automatic one that was on my 90 Town Car started doing it too, but it didnt have to move a cable because it was automatic, so it was effortless to move it through its full travel even though it was floppy. But this one uses a cable and it takes a little more effort to move it, so the floppiness makes it a pain in the butt. On another note, the dealer said a new one was 104.00.
You have to fix the cable first. If is hard to move, find out why that is and fix it. That is what broke your levers in he first place. Trust me I broke two of them in a 91 that I used to have. I never did fix it because I sold the car.

typical 90 and 91 issue. my old 1990 i had a year ago was same way. go to junkyard and find a few. you can probably get a few from there for $5-$10 each
well, his doesnt even have a defrost switch on the unit, and Ive never seen a fan switch go bad, so Id test them first before doing any further and potentially unessesary swapping.
