Im thinking about purchasing a voltmeter for my vicky and just wondering is it as easy a people say to install, how would it be done i heard it run to positive and some how run to alternator? any help highly appreciated!!! thanks guys

One wire to any hot switched source, one wire to a good ground, maybe a wire for illumination. Deciding on where to put it is the hard part.

yes the volt meter is the EZ one, just hook it up to any acessory juice that is on while the key is on.
Tapping into the ashtray cig lighter worked well for me

Cig lighter is usually constant +. The voltmeter uses tiny amounts of power though, so thats not really a problem. Ideally it should be key-switched though.

Would fuse-holder with a voltmeter between the alternator and starter solenoid draw any with the key off?

Autometer says right in their directions NOT to hook the voltmeter to the alternator. Find a switched source inside the car; its simpler and more convenient.

I was just talking about a regular in-line fuse holder that also has the display, not an interior gauge. Would that make any difference?

I didn't mean to comment on your thread. I was commenting on the first post, and the reference to hooking the voltmeter to the alt. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not so sure I understand what you're asking. There are fuse holders that display voltage on them (just to use for reference)? Is this a temporary thing, or is it always left hooked up?

I gotcha, its a fuse holder that displays voltage instead of the regular Mega-Fuse from the 3g to starter solenoid. I figured the two scenarios were sort of similar? I'm just concerned about a parasitic drain if its possible.

I used the wires from the light on top of the ash tray for the lighting for it, and the feed source from the fuse panel. I used the one for the wipers. it was a metal circuit breaker. Then I grounded it on the main ground thing under the center of the dash. DO NOT RUN IT TO THE ALTERNATOR!

did you just stick the wire in the fuse panel?

yeah, I made sure it wouldn't come out or anything like that. I wrapped it around one of the prongs for the circuit breaker for the wipers
