    3G Alt Question

Are there any stock 3G alts that are 180-200 amps? Just curious, and what would they have been in? I am wanting a HO alt for my both the Linc and the LTD at a reasonable price.

180-200 amps is A LOT and you wont find that anywhere except for aftermarket super hi performance alts.
The 3G is only 100 some amps as far as I know

The one in the tourus is a 130 amp....the 3.8 is a large housing 3G and you will need a 100 amp crown vic mount in order for it to work.

The stock 3G is 130 amps. You can find more powerful ones on www.pa-performance.com (IIRC) and on Ebay. I bought an upgraded 3G that had 150 amps so that I know I'm safe no matter how many doodads I put into my car. Consider that your car does just fine with a stock 65 amp max alternator. 200 amps is a LOT of amperage. The everyday person will never, EVER need that much amperage.

Pretty much the only time you'll ever need an alternator like that is if you're in one of those dadgum sound system competitions that also often times require a second or third battery... or if you're one of the losers on Pimp My Ride who likes to put televisions in every single empty spot on the car.

Well in the LTD, I have 1800 total watts of power, and it loves to drain my battery. No TVs in the car, pointless. Just loud ass speakers. My battery doesn't need a jump really ever because I do have a bigass closed cell marine battery in the trunk of my LTD. I just don't ever want to have my bats drained while I am in middle of nowhere. I guess 130 amp would probably be fine since I have two bats.
