Repeated engagment and dis-engagement of AC Compressor clutch
Like he said. It will do that if it is low on freon and sometimes if it is over charged. If you haven't done anything to it I would say it was low. Get it fixed or stop using the A/C, if you run it when it is low you will take out the compressor.

Yes , I did. About a month ago my AC belt broke while driving and it lashed about all around the engine compartment. I replaced the belt and it was OK, but I did notice that the cooling had dropped off a bit. I will top up the freon and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks.
Yep, that's the one, bet when his belt flew apart it hit the lines for the concenser up front, disturbing them just enough to cause a slow leak, now his freon level is low enough to trip that switch a few seconds after the clutch engages.
Make sure you check for leaks, and make sure you top it up with the proper refrigerant. Original is R12, however many were converted to R134. They are not compatible. The fittings will have been changed if it was retrofitted, but if they have not been replaced, don't top it up with R134.

Look at the charge fittings. if they are threaded, its likely R12. If they are smooth with a groove cut into them, its R134. There should also be a label somewhere under the hood if it was converted to R134. I don't know the laws in other countries, but here whenever the AC system is retrofitted, its supposed to get a sticker saying as much.
R134 fitting looks something like this
R12 looks more like this. The stock ones don't have right angle fittings. One is on the side of the black can on the right side of the engine compartment, the other is very near the AC compressor.

Not sure how available it is where you are, but you may need to get a shop to charge it. R12 isn't produced any longer, and can be expensive and hard to come by. It may be cheaper to have the system converted to R134 than to top off with R12, depending.

he may be able to get r12 in his part of the world......manufacturing was banned in the us and europe and imports of r12 are not allowed into the us i know for sure........they probably make millions of gallons of it in india yet lol

OK. I will have to check out the availability of R12. I am guessing that it will be around 'cos there are a huge number of 1980's cars on the roads here in Saudi Arabia as taxis and whatever else in the car that might or might not work the AC has got to be up to the mark in temps that can reach 50 C.
