Hm. Provided you already have the housing clip loose, I'd just try attempting to force the nearer side up or down till it comes loose from that side. Then you can reach farther in and push the very tip of the cable in the opposite direction, and it should come all the way off. Come to think of it, most any variant on this method should work as well.

The housing clip? the black plastic clip? The one that clips to the bracket? That's off now

Yeah, that's what I meant. Should be easy to get the wire out now.

nope, I'd just get the wire out of the clip. Clip can stay on the lever on the temp door.

The loop seems to be just there to terminate the wire. The little clip should still be on the air door lever; just do what you need to do to work the cable into it. Techless tip: adjustment should take care of itself if you install the controls end of the cable first, set the control lever to full cold, and hook up the business end with the air door lever all the way toward the firewall. Or set the control lever to hot and the air door toward the passenger seat. Either way.

ok thanks. had I known that loop wasn't really attached to anything, I could've turned the cable around.

I got the other cable switched it. The cable bent when I put it on. I don't know why. I bent it back and it seems to be working fine now. But who knows how long that will last?
