great. how do I change/ remove the cable? Please tell me that you don't have to take the dash down to get at it.

Depends on how skinny your arms are. Cable attaches to the top side of the heater plenum (homemade replacement shown here)

I can get up there I think, the only thing I'm wondering is how to disconnect the cable from the plenum

If you can reach it, disconnecting should be no biggie - the factory cable is just attached with a couple of clips. Maybe I can get a picture of my old one to show you.

Here ya go. The plastic clip just clips onto the retaining bracket on top of the plenum, and the wire clips into a clip on the control arm itself. I think the far end of the wire must be pushed down to unclip and the nearer part pushed up. Once the wire is unclipped, I think the plastic retainer should be easier to take off.

The last two pics are just for position reference.

It might not be unhooked there. The cable jacket clips into the back of the climate control head unit as well. I broke the lock tab on mine, and it will fall out. Had to put a zip tie on it to hold the cable in place.

Hadn't thought to worry about that, since mine's never been apart on that end.

took the head unit out. The cable is broken. So I guess I need a new cable.

whats broken, the clip on the cable that holds it in place, or the inner wire? If its just the clip, a zip tie should fix you up if you're creative with it.

reason I thought of it was because I broke mine replacing the defrost switch. Seems to me he also put a defrost switch in recently.

Ok, I can get my hand up there. I think. now there is a scissor clip for the plenum side of the cable. Where it attaches to that lever in the plenum. How do I remove this clip?
