    Temp Blend Door Cable

Having an issue with my heater controls in my '92 GM. The temp select lever is very difficult to move, non ATC. The lever drives a cable that moves the temp blend door. I found a customer interest that states to check the cable routing. It also states to see the service manual section 12-03 for information on adjusting the cable. Can anyone provide the directions on the cable adjustment procedure? When I move the lever from cold to hot its very stiff to move and it never moves to the hottest position, resulting in warm, not hot, heat. Thanks.

Id suspect the cable is hangin up or biding on something- Id dig it out and try to observe the cable while you move the lever

I don't know about the procedures in the manual, but the cable is held onto the little air-door-adjustment lever on top of the heater plenum with a little clip. If you pop the clip off and position the door at either full cold (away from you) or full hot (toward you) and reattach it after positioning the control lever accordingly, you ought to be good to go. Unless the cable or its housing are damaged somehow, but that should become obvious while messing with it.

Here's a shot of my jerry-rigged temp blend cable in case it helps. It's actually a disused choke cable, but it works exactly the same way. The clip thing is crooked in the picture, but you can kind of see how it attaches the cable to the door lever with the housing attaching to a big tab on the plenum. The stock cable setup is a bit more elegant and more convenient to deal with..

Thanks for the replys. It turns out that it was getting stuck. I did not adjust it, mostly because I couldn't get to it. I could see the clip but theres no way I could touch it with out taking the dash out of the car. So I shot some silicone spray at it and to my surprise that fixed it right up. It moves very freely in both directions and all the way to the stops. With the lever moving all the way to the hot side I now have hot heat. What could have been fixed in 5 seconds took an hour of frowning at it first. Thanks again.
