    weak heat

since ive had hte merc the heat has worked but never felt strong. it comes out mild too luke warm when the slider is all the way to hot. if i slide the lever to cold it comes out nice and cold.

besides hte slider sticking a little im wondering if maybe the coolant temp sensor is faulty or something.

any ideas on wha tit could be?

sounds like your heater core is clogged or you are low on coolant.

You don't necessarily have to take the core out.

You can try to flush it with water and an ordinary garden hose.

i got that zerex cleaner stuff and ran it for a few days. when i got the car the cooling system looked like someone stuffed mud in it. i cleaned it out and its still a little weak. it aint awfull but if its like 5 degress out it may not be too fun

gotta keep flushing it. Also check the pipes that the heater core hoses connect to. and also the heater core itself, and see if you can move anything around in there.

You never mentioned if you have Automatic Temperature Control (ATC). If your coolant level is fine, you already did the the flush, and you do have ATC , it's very likely the sensor (under dash just above glove box). To test this, pop off the two stops (screws accessible from in the box) on the glove box so it can open farther. Behind the glovebox you'll see a servo (small gold colored can) with a clear line on it. Pull the line off with your air on and see if the heat increases, if it does the sensor is bad. You can temporarily fix the heat by leaving the line off the servo, just push something into the clear line (small screw, ect) to close the vacuum leak until you get the new sensor. They run around 30 or so and Teamfordparts.com should have them.

When you get the chance, have a look at your climate controls. It should say ATC right in the middle below you temperature slider. Also the ATC has fan speeds Hi/Med/Lo/Auto. The ATC sensor would be inside the car underneath the dash pad above the glove box.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I am having the same problem. I don't have atc, and my heater core is new. I put one of those flush kit adapters in the line to the heater, and made sure the system was completely topped off by holding it higher than the rest of the cooling system and filling it up to overflowing.

Before I put in the new core, the heater was nice and hot, now it is just luke warm as IC said.

when was last time thermostats were changed on your cars also. if they happen to be sticking open, it wont let the coolant warm up right for the heat. another thing could be to check your vacuum lines under the dash by the heater box since it might not be blending it correctly for the heat

One of the members, gadget73 just wrote up an excellent thread on climate controls which should help you a great deal. Just in case you're still confused about the Climate setup you have, pictured below to the left is the standard climate control setup. The picture to the right is the ATC climate controls in my car.

yea theres no lettering or numbers so im pretty sure its the basic climate control. we have more then one thermostat? i changed the one right on top of the waterpump. the engine warms right up no problem. it does take a little for it to warm up but it does
