Another huge problem with lights this time. Please help me!

So today i was trying to fix a speaker in the trunk and noticed my lights were on an, so i checked and the light swith was pulled on? The running lights dome, rearlight, liscens plate light, and speddo light was on so i went in the trunk and as i was closing it i noticed a spark, it was the wire leading up the trunk hinge and going somewhere in the middlie of the trunk lid. This all happened while i had the keys in my pocket, I even tried taking out fuse 4, and that supposly all those lights, and still they were on. but i tried messing with the wire and when i touched it it would spark a little and the light would go off, also thewire looks as if it was bitten through i can see the metal from the wires, looks as if it rubbed a bit to much any help would be appricated this is my first car so im a newbie, thanks!

Oh boy. Lol. Can you get some pictures of this sparking wire? Also, if the light goes off, I'd recommend disconnecting the battery and trying to either, run a new wire for that, or wrap it in electrical tape, either way, be careful and good luck. If it's only the trunk light that goes out, then the wire is for that circuit. I hope this helps. Remeber to DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY FIRST SO YOU DON'T GET A SHOCK!!!!!

So I'm not quite clear, was the headlight switch on or off? Also, any answers from me will assume that you don't have the AutoLamp feature (where the headlights stay on for a period of time after you shut the car off).

Wait what? if the light in the trunk goes out when you touch it to the trunk, then it is grounding itself because the metal of the wire is exposed. All you have to do it tape up the wire.

also when i was installing my subs i needed to ground my amp, and as you probally know that there are two ground wires running to the wheel wells in the trunk on each side my friend lost one of the screws holding it down and it hasnt had any problems since now and that was like 3 months ago. and i belive that i tried that, taking the wire off the metal of the trrunk and tounching it it only when off when you got a spark it was confusing me

Does it spark when you hit the metal of the trunk? Or it just sparks for no reason?

it sparks and then all the light go off like it should be. but when i take off the wire it goes back on, so then i tried leaving it on and it got hot

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure AutoLamp-equipped cars have a little control similar to the one here: http://www.taurusclub.com/encycloped...OdashPanel.jpg

When you wired the amplifier, did you run a 1- or 2-gauge cable directly to the battery? If not, there's a slight possibility some wiring may be getting overloaded and maybe even melting some of its insulation, which in turn would lead to mysterious shorts. And of course, redundant grounds never hurt anything!

The wire running into your trunk lid is probably for a light or for the trunk release. If the wire is getting hot, then that means you are grounding a hot wire against ground. What lights are going on and off?

The rear tail lights dash running lights licsence plate and dome light the go off as if it was normal then they go on when you take the wire off
