Nice article. I might need it in the future. I think maybe his alternator or voltage regulator was crap though.

I'm highly satisfied with my 1G for now. I had it rebuilt at the local alternator shop for $20. It cranks out 12.1V with the A/C, headlights on high, premium sound running, door, trunk, hood, and glove box open, defroster, map lights, and brake lights. So in other words, everything but the emergency flashers. And thats with it idling at 300rpm. Anything above 500rpm and it's up to 14V.

Anyone else think thats way too low of an idle?
What kind of oil pressure you have at that speed?

Yeah, it's low. But it never stalls. It makes it sound cool because you can just about hear each cylinder firing. You have to watch it because it will heat up in traffic if it is hot. Oil pressure is less than 20psi @ 2000, so I'll let you guess what it is at hot idle and the A/C cranking. You don't want to sit at a light for long.

will do - I may just convert to lopo sefi if I am ready before I get the HO intake things - it will make the intake upgrade easier too... There will be a detailed write-up for sure.

Also, I saw your CFI parts blanket thread - Ive got stuff at my moms place I have to go through soon, I might be able to make a package with one of everything. Most of the sensors and stuff is exactly the same as sefi stuff though, except for the CFI and whats attached to it of course.

I am looking forward to seeing it done.
Where are you located? Maybe I could run over and help on the switch over.

Alternator is in and charging with no amp light on

If you're second guessing yourself doing this, dont. wiring it is a piece of cake. I was able to get rid of the two thin wires going to the solenoid and the external voltage regulator on the fender cleaning up the engine bay a bit more. I used 4ga and a circuit breaker instead of a fuse since I can reset the breaker if it ever gets tripped instead of replacing the hard to find fuses in the middle of the night/nowhere.

15$ at the junkyard, tested good at Advance for free, charges ~14.3 at idle

RIP Jason P Harril, we'll miss ya bro
