if its the same as the newer ones it should be underneath the car right in front of the passenger rear tire, two bolts hold the bracket in place and it should come out

'82 will probably be carbureted, in which case the filter ought to be plumbed inline somewhere between the mechanical fuel pump and the carburetor, usually slightly behind and to the passenger side of the distributor. At least for a 2100/2150 carb, there's one version of the filter that screws into the carb inlet, so it just looks like a really funky inlet fitting and if you follow the line there's nothing else between it and the pump.

I don't think you need a new carb, dude...

I think the problem is with your pickup, maybe the line is restricted where the pickup is..

This picture might help; the circled part is the style of filter that screws directly into the carburetor. http://www.jeeperos.com/foros/attach...id=33124&stc=1

Here's a shot of the same thing as installed in a vehicle with a fuel hose attached. In this case the filter says "FRAM": http://home.earthlink.net/~bubbaf250...0_rside_01.jpg

I'll keep an eye out for a good picture of a carb with a universal filter; there'll be a short piece of hose coming from the carb, leading to a little canister-looking thing, with more fuel hose attached to the other end.

Rebuilt/remanufactured Motorcraft 2100-series carburetors can be had from your local AutoZone, but when I looked into getting one the cost was around $300. Rebuild kits are a lot cheaper if you want to give that a shot. Keep in mind that your car may have the "Variable Venturi" carburetor that looks rather different: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...26_47_full.jpg Some guys really dislike the Variable Venturi design and prefer to replace them with a regular 2100-series two-barrel. When I decided to fix my leaking 2100-series on one of my cars, I opted instead to buy a four-barrel intake (Edelbrock Performer 289 nonemissions) and a brand-new Edelbrock 1403 four-barrel carburetor (500cfm). This set me back around $400, but I think it was very well spent.

Good deal. They're usually under five bucks for a carb'd model, and the easiest place to start if a fuel-delivery problem is suspected.

Have you tried using a jumper cable to jump the starter cable directly to the battery? Assuming you have juice, that way you know at least the starter is still good.

The pickup would be the thing you removed from the fuel tank with the hose on it.

Stupid question, but how much gas is in the tank?
