    Ignotion sw question

Ok follow me here..............on cars that have point ignitions, if one wants to listen to the radio with out starting the car, one turns the ignition key in a counter clockwise direction (ACC Pos) so as to not burn the points. No problem there.............but on modern cars without point ignitions why is there still an ACC position, like on my '86 MGM??

Coil gets very hot if it has power but its not discharging.
Also less electrical drain in acc vs run position.
Newest car I've seen with ACC position was a '95. But I guess its more common in us made vehicles.

Lots of other systems are powered with the key fully on. Most things don't power the heater fan, the AC compressor, the climate controls, the ABS system, ignition system, PCM, engine cooling fans, daytime running lights, etc, etc, etc in ACC mode. Makes for much lower current draw if you just want to sit and eat a sandwich while listening to the radio. Better chance of the battery not being dead in 15 minutes.

My 2011 Silverado doesn't have one, but you can turn the key on and back off and the radio plays for about 10 minutes.

Actually if I am in the car on a day it has to be moved (NYC is so grand) I sit in the car with my old Walkman and earbuds so as to not run down the battery, even in ACC position.........having had to live for an extended period of time with a battery that consistently went dead until I discovered the cause of the parasitic drain, I tend to be concerned about unnecessary use of the battery without the car running.

These days using your cell phone and ear pods work very well in listening to music or podcasts. I agree about the drain of the battery. The car batteries are made so poorly now about 3 years is all you get.
I have one or two slightly used walkman units. Just pay for shipping and they are yours.

replaced 2 batteries this summer. Both 6+ years old. Frankly the best service life I've gotten from a battery in years. One was the "bad" battery out of my mom's 2018 Equinox that I stuck in my truck and used for another 4 years before it started cranking slow. The other was in the Continental, also bought 2018. Neither had completely shit out but both were under 50% CCA rating and struggling.

I did quit buying cheap batteries years ago. Spending $200-250 on one stings but I'll do that and get 5 years vs spending 175 and its completely shot in 3 years.

Yes, I used to have a 60 and three 63 Larks

Ok, I just found two. One is a used Sony CD with am/fm, the other is a Walmart brand CD and FM, still in the unopened packaging. Do you want one or both ?
I will have to figure out shipping tomorrow. I have your address on file.
