Messed around with the harness and that didn’t change anything. Also checked again and the lowest it dropped to was 8.7 volts. Nothing really changed from the other day when it was getting consistent spark but no start to no spark at all. I’m gonna keep looking into it.

Left the car alone for a bit but my starter isn’t spinning fast enough for me to get spark. It was at first, but after time it just diminishes. Checked starter and everything is working there but my car keeps killing solenoids. I heard it could me due to excessive amperage.

yeah starter dying will eat solenoids. Drags the voltage down considerably too.

Possibly time for a new starter and solenoid. I believe they have heavy duty starters for these cars? Check all the wiring involved with these two parts, as well!

Will check. Also, just messed around with the solenoid and when I put the wired back together it cranked up on its on with no key in the ignition.
            Edit: Disregard the last statement.

Also, you can use a starter for a 91 on an 89 to get the ministarter (doesn't sound the same as the big fat starter, but they tend to be more reliable - and it's a little easier to get at the top bolt).

I’m about to get this one replaced under warranty and I’ll see how it goes from there. If I still have a slow crank then next thing I’ll move to is the wires to the solenoid.

Actually, does anyone know what the voltage, amperage, and resistance in all the wires that connect to the solenoid are supposed to be?

                    depends what you mean
                    depends on the wire
depends where you are measuring it to

all of the wires on the battery side should measure battery voltage to negative
the amperage depends on the circuit they feed. Various size fuse links
resistance should be low to the other end of the wire, high to ground

Also, verify the fat ground to the engine block is tight and not corroded/rusted/oxidized. If that cable has gone to shit, you'll have trouble cranking over.

Yeah I’ve been trying to get to that one but it seems pretty hard to reach

                          might be easier from underneath

It was the starter that was killing my solenoids. Changed it out and caught spark a few times. Also, had my grandad come come down and help me today and he turned something in the distributor hole, what did he turn?

only thing down there is the oil pump drive shaft.

Ok, then I just didn’t understand what he was doing. He turned it clockwise, should I do anything about it or leave it be?
