Charging question :-/

MMk's umm can i ask if any one would tell me, where you check the voltage for your ALT? I been checkin mine on the battery terminal's and.... I dont think thats where im suposed to be checkin it at.

Reason why? Cause its still fluxuating with the engine and key off ^_^

So where elese is there o great guru's of Electrical Stuff :-P

it should work at the battery, unless there is a problem. You can stick your + test lead right on the nut holding the fat wire for a reading

you'll slowly boil the electrolyte out of the batteryand possibly burn out lights and electronics prematurly. though modern electronics are more forgiving of higher voltages than in the past

yes my 77 was over-charging and the battery was steaming and puffed out the sides. Eventually it would not start the car, and the guys at autozone were afraid to give me a jump lol.

On a handy note, boiling batteries also produce hydrogen, the most flammable gas you can get. There is also a nice chance of having the battery explode, which makes a hell of a mess.

i've seen batteries explode and i've seen class 8 truck tires explode...i'd rather see truck tires explode (something like 3 concussion grenades going off simutaniously)

Volts. Batteries are meant to have an idle voltage of about 12.6, normal running is maybe 14.5 max. 16-17 volts is way high. Fix your electrical system.

Ugha it's just gonna half to blow then :-/ Theres no way i can afford a new Altanator for it.. let alone the new wires.. i done herd you fellers talk about them suckers being high.

And atm i got to much shit on my plate with money.. :-/...
