10 minutes and $4 for a roll of tape vs. 2-3 hours with a scraper and a lacquer soaked rag. I would not bring a surface prep disc near those bores. i would not even use them on the head gasket area.

To be honest with you, I need to have lots of mindless work to do this weekend... keep my mind off other things that are going on.
It's better that I'm stuck cleaning the shortblock.2011 Mustang GT Premium, MT82, Kona/Saddle, HIDs, 3.73s, 19s, hood/side stripes, UPR 1.5" springs with adjustable panhard bar, and UMI solid LCAs and relocation brackets.

+1 on the paint w/ heads on. Actually I didn't even paint my motor so I can't talk, but when I've done them in the past, I usually do them fully dressed. If the valve covers or intake don't get paint, the VC goes on wrapped in that packing paper that everything ships with, and I tape that stuff into the lifter galley too. Once done, just remove and shitcan the paper.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

ASAP - Need a HO cam for SD
I know this belongs in "For Sale / Wanted" area, but I don't know how well-trafficked those forums are and I need this as soon as possible.
Looking for a stock Mustang cam that is SD-friendly and in good shape. I'm told 87-88 would be the best to run.
Anyone have one you're willing to part with for free or really cheap? Come on, guys- go dig through your junk and let me know what you find!2011 Mustang GT Premium, MT82, Kona/Saddle, HIDs, 3.73s, 19s, hood/side stripes, UPR 1.5" springs with adjustable panhard bar, and UMI solid LCAs and relocation brackets.

GMGT sent me a 1987 Mustang cam. I installed it tonight, but first took the time to compare the two. They are significantly different- the lobes on the Mustang cam are much wider (does that mean it has more duration?)
Installation went without a major hitch (ignoring the emergency trip to the parts store ten minutes before closing because I couldn't find my assembly lube), but the timing chain was giving me a little trouble. Got it worked out, though.
I also got the water pump installed. It's starting to look like an engine. I came in for a beverage break, then planned to go do the deck and heads, but realized it was after eleven, so I called it a night. More updating tomorrow, hopefully.

Mind if I ask why you went with the standard HO cam vs the Explorer cam? Just curious. I'm half thinking that I'd like to go the other way with my car, but I'm far too lazy to do the work involved.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
