Very cool. Is it quieter / better / faster now?

Is the axle back together already? Did you convert it to rear discs while everything was all apart? That's the time to do that upgrade, since axle shafts need to come out of the housing in order to be able to remove the drums backing plates and install the disc caliper brackets in their place. Bolt-on affair tho, quite literally.

Oh yeah, cost for the axles, if you don't mind sharing. Good OEM axles are getting hard to find, same with limited-slip differentials. LSDs from F150s are everywhere tho, but they have 31 splines. If Moser axles are reasonably priced, this may be a good source of parts to keep these old boats sailing for a while longer.

+1! Seriously considering the rear disk swap too. 31-spline diffs are cheaper than 28 as well. I'll see how long my 28-spline trac-loc holds together but this is a good idea for anyone looking to upgrade, especially in the power department.

Moser axles are $300 for a pair with no ABS rings, pretty quick turnaround for me.

LOUD EXHAUST IS FUN! AM I SHOUTING?

300 for a pair really isn't a bad price. Dorman stock replacements are 133 each from Rockauto.

Yup! Especially considering that the folks at Moser know what they're doing and are known to be good at it, whereas offerings from the bulk rebuilders are all too often just a bandaid deal, not intended to run as long as OEM stuff.

If/when I replace the axles again in mine, it'll probably get this treatment. It has replacement 28 spline currently. The Mark VII also will probably get that treatment. There is no source at all of replacement axles for those cars. Moser does have plans for a 28 spline replacement that can accept the ABS tone ring. I wonder if they would be willing or able to take those specs and just use them for a 31 spline axle. Its basically the Mustang SVO axle, plus a tone ring. I find it hard to imagine there has never been a 31 spline SVO conversion done.

Maybe maybe not on that one. Not a lot of drag-race SVO's, and let's face it, the 2.3T(urd) was not exactly a torque monster so not much worry about shredding axles. That said, I've always wanted an SVO, although i'd readily shit-can the 4-popper in favor of a v8. Unless I could lay my hands on a cosworth 4. Now THAT would make the SVO a worthy adversary.

Last pinto I owned with a 2.3 hopped up would out run stock Tbird turbo cars. 28 to 32 MPG highway travailing 80 MPH. Around 120 the new clutch would start burning as a hd clutch couldnt be had at the time.
Pinto was a rust bucket 25 years later installed the engine in a 86 ish ranger short bed 5 speed gave it to my son. people kept asking him what the hell was in it. Got totaled guy hit him in the passenger side front fender. Could give a dam about the truck would like to have the engine back.

Did a split port head design for one similar to the 3.0 V6 I did but as the engine was to be discontinued soon it was shit caned by the new supervisor of Fords advance engineering
