    msster cylinder

What is the accepted thought(s) as to high to fill a dual mc?..........in today heat I found fluid had weeped over the sides of the cover and killed the nice paint job I did on the master.

Can I run a m/c with half to 3/4 full?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

3/4 should be fine. Half is probably pushing it.

Fighting the warped lid/uneven mounting surface on an old school master cylinder? I filed the top and straightened the lid my last reman in effort to get it to seal. Still leaked. I put rtv on it. No leaks! I am considering dot 5 in the mustang since it's getting all new brakes and I'll cry if the paint gets screwed up.

Tiggie, I have to admit that the m/c was only about 1/4 from the top cover........so in yesterdays heat the fluid just weeped over the cover gasket........lesson learned.....just wanted to make sure ...but the real question is over the years what has been the 'accepted" knowledge where m/c's are concerned.....I have heard for years that 1/4 inch from the top.....but now I see that is actually TOO much fluid, corect??

I aim for 1/4inch from top - like you have traditionally used. I'd say that's the right amount. But lately the reman master cylinders I have been getting won't deal worth a darn. Thus the rtv (which I don't like to use in this application but what else can we do?).
