    Need rearend advice ASAP

    I noticed bad splines on "new" originally disc '96 axle.

    I have the original '91 axles, they have different flanges.

    Drum on L, Disc on R.

    Do anyone foresee any issues using the old one?

    Weelll, it seems that the '91 axles will not seat far enough into the housing to install the c-clips....

      Are you sure? I put 91 axles in a 97 rear and everything fit just fine. I do remember something being a bit off but it wasn't a problem.
      It's still in the car today and doing just fine!

        If they are the same length it should work. The flanges are slightly different on the later axles to accommodate the ABS tone ring. Earlier axles are shorter, but I was under the impression that the axle housing all got wider in 1990. No chance you have an earlier rear in the car is there?

        Are you keeping the '91 drums on a '96 axle assembly or is this some other combo?

          It's the '96 rear w/91 drums that's been in it since winter. The '96 axle c clip just dropped in..

            Do you have someone to push (lightly slap in) the axle while you insert the clips?

            I have had one or two which required this.

            Also rotating the axle can drop it in further. Minor inconvenience as you don't want the spiders to pop out so I used a socket to insert in the pin hole which was held in by tape. This way it will stay in synch.
