Not keeping the car alive per say, but its not a performance/muscle car. Its a solid daily driver.

I picked up an A1 Cardone gear from RockAuto last year and installed it in my car because my original one was leaking like a SOB. I haven't had any issues with it. There's significantly less play in it than my old one and it's dry as a bone. Back then it was only $80 + core for that steering gear. (And looks like it still is. They also have Lares, Atsco, and AC Delco available)

Here's the post on the installation if interested: http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/showthre...l=1#post723908

Scott installed a performance steering box on my 89 - 8? years ago and it has been terrific except above 85 in west texas when a breath turns the car. Where I particularly like it is coming off the Tappan Zee into very narrow lane construction at 55 or so. Steering's starting to get sloppy again so I guess that's the lifespan.

Looks like Amazon is the cheapest, it doesnt say there is a core charge, it charges for the full thing. So that seems to be the way to go, since I get free shipping with prime

The Motorcraft STG35RM is the one required for this swap, correct? I plan on doing this as part of my build as well. Also, how does a core work with rockauto? Especially if my "core" is from 1979. lol

they refund the core charge when you send in the core part. If shipping is more than the core charge... meh.

I believe he is more concerned about sending in a different model steering box as the core.

I don't think they check it. I returned a different model and haven't had any issues. I've done the same for brake calipers too when I did big brake swap. Send single piston calipers instead of duals.
