    air ride compresor dryer explodes, WTF?

    Hi All,

    On my buddy's 91 Mark VII the dryer blew it's top off. About a month ago I put in new front air springs but did not touch anything under the hood.

    Anyone come across this before?

    Probably old and plugged up. Ticking time bomb. =-)

      the plastic can get brittle. Its rare that they fail, but not impossible. If you get a used replacement, dump the dessicant out and bake it dry before installing. I seem to remember about a half hour on the lowest setting my oven would do turned them back to clear. If you have a bunch of silica beads from something, those will work fine as a replacement if you prefer to re-stuff vs drying. Replace the O rings at the bottom and at the collets too.

        Well, put in a new Arnott unit $50 all the way from China. Hope it was just old age and the "bomb" went off. So far so good.

        Point of interest is that the Mark uses 4 air hoses direct from the dryer and the new unit came with 3 plugs so it is probably universal back to the single hose box systems.

          Probably for the Towncars. They had a single line, but the compressor was otherwise identical.

            Single line also in cv/gm. I think the compressors are the same. Not sure though.
