    Tranny issues.

    I can't get her/him/it to shut up!!

When I put my 85 in gear leaving work yesterday it caught hard, like a hard shift, then now it slips at low RPM, catches when the revs go up, holds gear too long and upshifts very hard.

    Fried?

At least it got me home.

That doesn't sound good at all. It's all because you fixed the mushy brakes. The car can't let you win for too long.

yeah... pretty sure it's gonna need a rebuild. Sounds like the clutches are close to gone and the accumulators are sticking.

Ach. I figured. OD was sticking when cold recently.

Maybe you could get a few months out of it with a drain/refill and some sort of snake oil. Lucas and Seafoam both make versions. What can it hurt?

            I actually have a spare

But I'm deciding what I'm going to do. It may be time to move on.

When was it last serviced? Are you positive the gasket that belongs between the filter and the valve body is in place? If its not, it will slip because its sucking air.

Fluid level = good. TV bushing = 1985. Gasket = there.

I changed the pan fluid and the filter last summer iirc. Could've been 2011 though.

I HAD to take it to the gas station last night and guess what? It acted perfectly normal.

It's messin with my head man!!

I suspect it'll be my last warning.

I hate to hi-jack this thread, but I need to inspect my TV bushing on my 1989 LTC. Does anybody have a pic of how it is suppose to look like and where it is?? I keep hearing about this TV thing and it seems very important! I hope everything works out for your Pricey pete!

To add to the snake oil I hear dthat there was this pliquid called Z-max that you add to your oil and tranny. Haven't seen it in a while but I heard it did wonders. Probably why they don't have it anymore

Also, I keep hearing that if the tranny fluid hasn't been changed in a while, its best to leave it alone because the sediment (now crucial) will get washed away and cause more problems. This is what I got from reading in these forums

Just drive it. I swear cars are possesed at times. My new Buick wouldn't shift into six gear the other day at 75MPH. Then all of a sudden it was fine and hasn't done it since.

if it acted normal this time... then it's probably not trans, but engine related. IIRC, this is kinda how my 88 and Mark were acting when the TFI was having issues (TFI connector loose on the 88 and full dizzy on the Mark - mainly dying PIP). It seems to hold a gear too long because there's basically no power coming from the engine to drive the pump to accumulate to the next gear in the trans.

I've never put any faith in the "don't change old fluid" thing. If you change it and it dies, it was already shot.
