driveshaft upgrades?

There were only 2 passenger car/2wd truck tail housings. The truck 4wd transmissions were the only additional type.

The 180 out thing only applies to 2 piece driveshafts. Not ours.

As I said, I have had hands on experience in this over many years. Rotating a removed shaft 180 degrees can and certainly has eliminated noticeable vibrations.

But if the shaft is balanced, how would it make a difference? It's still balanced, so it can't cause a vibration...

You are asking the same question I have asked myself before. I do not have the answer. Wish I did.

I am not saying every shaft will give you problems. I recently installed an aluminum shaft from mcninteyone and I have zero vibrations. So was I lucky in putting it in right or was it so welll balanced it did not matter? I really don't know.

When my tranny was replaced a couple of years ago, they did not mark the shaft orientation. I had a vibration. I rotated the shaft and the vibration was gone. I have done other cars of other manufactures over the years and learned the hard way, sometimes it makes a difference.

the aluminum ones, unless noticably dented/daamaged, tend not to vibrate as much.

for the steel ones... sometimes the spider gear/u-joint at the rear can have a 180-out bit of play. Mechanic buddy of mine suggested I do the 180 trick with my Mark and see if that changes the vibes any. I still haven't done it yet though. I've been slackin.
