I was looking at the door sticker on my 87 Box Wagon and the code was a "5". Any idea what that is?

number would indicate open diff iirc. and 3.27s are odd ball but, good never the less. 2.73 and 3.08s are more common, yet dog meat lol. 3.73s are ideal.

I always had trouble finding those, so a few years back I put them in my sig.
3.27 isn't a bad ratio. Not much difference than the much coveted "K" code (3.55 limited slip).
At least not much you can feel. The Ford employee who maed the final decision to put 2.73s
on a panther, really ought to be taken out to the woodshed though.Owner of the only known 5 speed box wagon with a lift kit.

All levity aside, don't make that mistake again. Mrltd will destroy you. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of times I had to beg for my digital life.

as long as it's an 8.8 rear axle... the gears/carriers are bolt-ons. you can swap around. Always keep the ring/pinion set together... no mixing and matching those - even with same ratio gears as the tooth angle may be just a bit different between sets.

If I can't locate a K code limo axle, I can get a Trac-Loc carrier and 3.73 ring & pinion kit and have the stock axle rebuilt. That plus an Explorer motor should move this boat pretty damn well.88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)
