Just for the heck of it, check to see if the hood stops are adjusted properly. We have run into a lot of front end squeaks being caused by the hood bouncing.

Please post what you find. I had an 82 LTC that made a squeak/chatter sound and never bothered looking in to it. The car was rusting away and died before I needed to fix it.
I have noticed it on my 89 LTC and plan to use it as a casket when I die. Thought it was a loose center cap on the drivers front but fixed that and didn't change. Had the caliper hang up on that one too so has a new caliper pads and pins the sound is still there. Clattering chirp is the best description I can think of over bumps. Sort of embarrassing like a tin can clanging underneath.sigpic

That's a good point, my front clip squeeks. You can recreate it just pulling up or down on the bumber.

How is the outer tie rod end?
I would pull the caliper and lubricate the pins etc anyway

My mechanic (dad) took a test drive with me last week some time. It seems to be more of a metal to metal squeak deal, rather than tire chirpage....after-all I cannot drive and stick my head out of the window to listen to the offending area. We jacked the car up, tightened the chassis braces, pried on a couple components and determined that the lower body mounts are shot. Put a jack stand by the frame where the ac usually rusts it out and then jacked up the body of the car and there was a lot of play. Dad told me that was the big thumping sound I would hear on other occasions when the suspension just drops out from a really big hole. He figures that all sounds should go away with new bushings. I guess new body bushings should improve how the car handles as well. Now to find replacement bushings.
And the bumper is tight. I was bench pressing the front end with it while looking for suspect places.~David~

body bushings is probably the issue with my 93 and some of it's jitters too. but they're still good enough to not sound off like that. The 88 on the other hand... it's getting nice and squeaky on the driver side. That may have more to do with the new poly bushings though... I'm planning to grease them some more when I get under that car next.
