1991 GM ..Bottom mounting bolts on front shocks keep falling out and gettting lost?

I replaced each side with the same size 5/16" x 18 x 1" inch fine thread hex flanged cap screw (bolt)from Auto Zone. It appeared to be the exact as 1 original bolt I had. One side has fallen out again.

Can I use a larger bolt that may be self tapping? How about a coarse thread? Locktite? Any other possible soultions?

    Thank you..

Put some nuts and bolts on there. The threads are stripped on the control arm. Fairly common problem due to the thin sheetmetal.

yup, what he said. Speed nuts are a little easier than regular nuts but the control arm is too thin to really hold a thread. Whenever mine are off next, I want to weld nuts to the inside of the arm so thats a non-issue.

        1/4" (diameter) bolts and nuts.

I tapped the threads for the next size up when my shock bolts fell out.
Then I loctited them, they're still in there, so I guess it worked.

That's what I did. Seems to have worked just fine for 2 years.
