    turn signal tab thingies?

    With fair frequency my turn signals fail to hold their position: I signal left, it unclicks, I signal left again, it unclicks again, and I find myself holding the turn signal down while turning the wheel with just my right hand.

    Someone told me that there are plastic tabs that hold it down, and then as you straighten the wheel they're what allow the turn signal to unclick on its own; and that these wear out.

    Anyone know what they're officially, technically called, so I know what to search for on autozone, rockauto, or the dealership?

    Turn signal cancel cam is what you're talking about. Not sure what year car you have but it may not use the replaceable type of cam...sometimes you have to replace the whole switch.

      90-94 i think you just gotta get a new switch. mine is on the way out. called a multi-function switch.

        sweet! rockauto shows it as just the cancel cam-- not the whole (and pricey!) assembly.
        This is for a 1990 marquis, anyway.

        There's one with 8 leads and one with 5 leads... any idea which?

          it's under "body-interior" and then "turn signal cam"

            wait... on reconsideration that's just a wiring harness, unless the photo isn't representative of the part. But it's called a "turn signal cam"!

              best to just get a switch... might even be cheaper just to go to salvage yard...

                i tried the junkyard route for a switch. switch was bad.

                  sounds like the clip to hold the position inside the multifunction switch itself is bad. or... your steering wheel is just off-center enough to put a cancel cam tooth right in the way.

                    ah, good thought-- it might be the steering wheel. It's not dead-center.
                    Maybe I'll do an alignment; I've been meaning to learn how anyway (we've got a machine at the votech classroom).

                    Well, the entire switch is $40 shipped from amazon, and it's on its way . I might just replace it while I'm doing the heater core and the dash is out, or maybe not.

                    It hasn't gotten really bad yet.
                    But it's occasionally annoying...
