    another rear end rebuild

OK, say I wanted to take the rear axle from the 95 because it's got discs and put it under my 90. I want to have it taken apart while it's off and have 3.73s and a trac lok unit and bearings etc installed. I've heard Ford racing are the only ones worth getting? could you link me up? it is an open 3.27 now.

Going to remove the rear while it's in my yard and bring it to my mechanic, he can work on it when he gets around to it.

Won't know if I need new axles until it gets opened up. I can't seem to find 28 spline ring and pinion on summit from ford racing

The gears are not specific to 28 vs. 31 spline axles.

You may already know this, but in case you do not.

28 spline refers to the number of splines on the axle, where it inserts into the differential. Only the differential itself, and the axles have to have matching spline counts (28, 31, etc). 31 spline axles were usually for trucks.

There are also splines on the pinion gear. But, since 8.8 gears are interchangeable between 28 and 31 spline axle rears, the spline count on the pinion should always be constant.

FRPP gears for the 8.8 are what you need.

There are other brands out that that you can use that are also of decent quality. Even used gears will work (had them in my red car). I've used Motive and Richmond without issue. They haven't seen a ton of street time, but they have seen a ton of 4000 rpm launches. And this is in a tiny GM 7.5 10 bolt. They're quiet, too.

But for the 8.8, I would also go with the FRPP gear set.

You should also plan on new (or good JY) axles. It never hurts to have them on hand.

No I won't be at SF unfortunately. I'll rebuild it when I can afford to, don't know when that'll be.

If I try I will be able to find an aero for about what I'd pay to fix this one up right, and it might even be a complete car haha

                  it needs

body work (rust hole on dog leg)
suspension work (either replace bags or other faulty component, or do a spring swap)
complete brake setup...all 4 corners, lines, master cylinder
                  windshield

i'm keeping the hpps. i'll shamelessly have 3 of them and one steelie on my 90. i'll find another hpp wheel some day!

the 95 stays for the time being...i'm an indecisive son of a bitch.

Only about 340 or so on summit for the 3.73 ring and pinion and track lock diff together, what else do I need? An install kit, right?

What else should get replaced back there? I want to put discs on, can I just buy calipers/rotors/pads and hose for a disc brake panther? Backing plates too but I can get those at a JY. I know I will probably need axles as well but I want to get a complete list of crap together so I can figure out some $$ numbers

Yeah, might need axles too. Replace the axle seals and bearings as well (SOLD SEPARATELY!!!). You'll need to run new brake lines from the master cylinder and get rid of the metering valve.
You're gonna have to make your own attachment for the Parking brake cables. Since the disc set up is different. Replace the shoes as well. You're gonna have to make brackets to hold the brake hose in place to go from the metal to the rubber line.

It would likely be cheaper for me to put stock brakes on the rear, but we'll see.

Yeah, but you will like not having to adjust your rear brakes all the time.

Try to fix the '95, so that you can save the '90 from future winter use. It's your call though...

We'll see what happens when it gets warmer out and I can actually work on it when I want to. If I get the 95 running well I'll replace the windshield and put coils out back and call it a day
